Chris Brown’s YRB Cover Shoot

POSTED BY Sharrod ON November 6th, 2009

With all the back-and-forth drama in the media, it’s easy to forget that Chris Brown is a natural born entertainer. And in spite of all the controversy, C. Breezy has persevered and bounced back from a career low point, making him the perfect cover story for our forthcoming Power issue hitting newsstands next week. His third album Graffiti is slated for a December 8th release, a move that some criticize as being “too soon” for someone that’s still making amends for a self-admitted mistake. But for that, we give Chris Brown credit for his redemption, rising out of the ashes with a positive outlook on life, love and happiness. Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Brown is back.

Chris Brown MTV Special Friday

POSTED BY Sharrod ON November 4th, 2009

RICHMOND, Virginia — In recent weeks, Chris Brown has been working to get his career back on track after his February altercation with Rihanna, with a new music video, a performance at a New York radio festival and a “Fan Appreciation” concert tour, an album due next month and a series of interviews talking about the assault and what he has learned from it.

But many questions still remain.

What caused the singer to lash out against his former girlfriend in the first place? Why has he tweeted fan-made photo galleries of the two of them and released music inspired by her? What does he think about, nine months later, when he recalls that fateful night?

Chris Brown discusses all of these matters, and takes a hard look back on what happened that night, during the MTV News special “Chris Brown: The Interview,” which airs Friday, November 6, at 6 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

“My thoughts [when I look back on it now] is like, ‘Why did it happen?’ “ he told MTV News correspondent Sway during an hour-long, one-on-one interview that took place in Brown’s native Virginia. “Like, ‘What was I thinking? What is wrong with you?’ That’s what I’m thinking with myself. That’s what my thoughts are, basically, now.

“It’s like, ‘How do we get past it? How do you, Chris’ — talking to myself — ‘how do you go from point A to point B? How do you learn from your mistakes, turn it into a positive and help other people with the situation, and at the end of the day become the person that you want to be?’ “

As both superstars attempt to move on and restart their careers while rebuilding their lives, the world is watching and waiting for answers.

During the interview, Brown told MTV News that therapy is helping him to assess his actions and behavior. The singer said he sits in group settings during his weekly sessions and combines the experiences of others with his own to figure out what led him to assault then-girlfriend Rihanna. “Just anger,” he said plainly when asked by Sway what triggered the incident. “Yeah, anger.

“Young people, we do before we think,” Brown added.

REACTION: Chris Brown’s Comeback Show at Powerhouse

POSTED BY Sharrod ON October 28th, 2009

MTV was at the show and got some behind the scenes footage of Chris Brown. He started the show dressed in a futuristic Michael Jackson ‘Thriller’ inspired outfit, which looked AMAZING, and then he went on to perform his new hit single ‘i can transform ya’, along with Swizz Beatz. Chris performed a number of songs, including Wall to Wall, With you, Gimmie that, Take you down (which the ladies went bananas for), and more. He ended the show with Forever. The crowd went CRAZY for Chris, as well did Twitter.

Oh, and listen to Polow Da Don’s reaction to Chris’ comeback performance, he pretty much summed it up lol.

VIDEO: Chris Brown Rehearsing For Powerhouse Concert

POSTED BY Sharrod ON October 27th, 2009

On Tuesday (October 27), the same day Chris Brown dropped a seriously cinematic video for “I Can Transform Ya,” featuring shape-shifting “Transformers”-like machines and martial arts moves, the singer is set to headline Power 105.1’s Powerhouse concert in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Will his performance at all mimic elements of the video? What will Brown do for his first major event since his assault on former girlfriend Rihanna, and his first to promote his December 15 album, Graffiti? MTV News got a sneak peek at his rehearsals in a Virginia dance studio, which went a long way toward answering some of those questions.

Throughout rehearsals, a yellow Bumblebee mask from the “Transformers” movies sat on a desk nearby. As “Transform Ya” began to play, Brown and his dancers stood in a straight line, their heads bowed. A line from 2007’s “Tranformers,” delivered by Optimus Prime, played over the speakers: “They’re a young species. They have much to learn.”

Optimus then called, “Autobots, roll out!” and the dancers broke out into formation as Brown’s song came on. Throughout rehearsals, Brown’s dance lineup shifted. At times, he was joined by as many as six backup dancers, while at others only two toe-tapped next to him. For a few tracks, he alone danced to the beat.

Dressed in a black baseball hat, gray sweatshirt and T-shirt, rolled-up pants and high-top Nikes, Brown wasn’t all business during his practice time. He joked around a bit, pulled off many nifty tricks with his hat and at one point sat down to check his Twitter account on a Mac laptop.

Brown ran through “Wall to Wall,” “Kiss Kiss” “Yo (Excuse Me Miss),” “Take You Down,” “Gimmie That” and “Back to the Crib” in front of our camera, but we didn’t see him rehearse “Crawl,” the new track he dropped last week.

Chris Brown to Headline Best Buddy Gala

POSTED BY Amee ON October 24th, 2009

Chris Brown can be saved.

So says SoFla’s member of the Kennedy clan, Anthony Shriver.

Shriver, whose Best Buddies International raises hundreds of thousands in Palm Beach each spring, is having him headline the non-profit’s Miami gala Nov. 20.

R&B singer Brown, who pleaded guilty to assault and is serving five years probation, is touring intimate clubs nationwide. He’s scheduled to play Shriver’s private shindig at the Mondrian Hotel on his way to a Richmond, Va., concert.

Shriver, the son of Sargent and Eunice Shriver and a nephew of former Pres. John F. Kennedy, founded Best Buddies 20 years ago as a college student. The group matches children with disabilities with mentors.

Is a Best Buddies gala really a good venue for Brown?

Absolutely, says Shriver. Especially since Brown joined Shriver’s cause and is donating some of the proceeds of his tour to Best Buddies.

“I support Chris Brown’s efforts to show the world why he deserves a second chance, given that the commitment he has made to Best Buddies – not only to perform at our Miami Gala, but also to join the Best Buddies family as a volunteer – is a huge step in the right direction,” Shriver told Page2Live in a e-mail.

“I also appreciate Chris’ generous offer to donate a portion of the proceeds from his tour to Best Buddies. I believe Chris’ fans will be equally inspired to support Best Buddies’ mission to provide opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities once they see his enthusiasm and commitment to the cause – and just how much his efforts mean to our participants.”

It’s unclear whether Brown actually will mentor handicapped youths.

Chris Brown Fans React To His New Single “CRAWL”

POSTED BY Sharrod ON October 21st, 2009

NEW YORK — Since his first single, “I Can Transform Ya,” is an upbeat Swizz Beatz-produced track, it’s not surprising that Chris Brown is slowing things down for his second single, “Crawl.” The song, which marks the next single off his forthcoming album, Graffiti, got a mostly positive reaction from fans in Times Square.

Many agreed that Brown has the capability to craft a catchy tune that people can relate to. “I like Chris Brown. I’ve always liked everything that he’s come out with and his songs are always catchy. This is no different,” Kaylee Peters said.

Another fan already could imagine listening to the track, which finds the singer pleading reconciliation with a lover, with friends. “It’s something that I imagine putting on in the car when I’m driving with my friends, something we can all sing along to and really have a good time with.” Alicia Lyons said.

I think what he’s saying is, it takes time to do everything. You crawl, you walk, then you run and jump,” Michel’le Baynard added.

Chris Brown ‘Fan Appreciation’ Tour Money Will Go To Charities

POSTED BY Sharrod ON October 20th, 2009

Chris Brown’s forthcoming tour, which the singer began publicizing weeks ago, was confirmed by his label on Tuesday (October 20). According to a press release, the trek will be “a small, 19-city ‘Fan Appreciation’ tour to acknowledge and thank his fans for their ongoing support. The tour is conceptualized for and with ‘fans only’ in mind, so intimate venues were selected for these concerts.”

The tour begins at the House of Blues in Houston on November 14 and ends December 15 in New York.

A portion of the proceeds from this tour will be donated to Best Buddies International. Founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver in 1989, Best Buddies is a non-profit organization devoted to providing friendships, jobs and leadership opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. While on tour, Chris plans to visit with Best Buddies participants, as well as encourage his fans to consider volunteering their time to work with those in their own communities who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, the release states.

The Jenesse Center, a domestic-violence intervention not-for-profit organization, will also receive a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales.

The singer recently filmed videos for two songs from his forthcoming Graffiti album: “I Can Transform Ya” and “Crawl.”

In addition to the tour dates, Brown will also perform at New Jersey’s Giants Stadium next Tuesday.

Chris Brown’s ‘Forever’ Tops The Charts, Again!

POSTED BY Sharrod ON October 9th, 2009

For a guy many thought was finished, Chris Brown sure is having the last laugh. In fact, he’s having two laughs.

The 20-year-old R&B star’s new single, “I Can Transform Ya” featuring Lil Wayne and Swizz Beatz, was released to iTunes this week and quickly topped the R&B/Soul chart at No. 1. It sat pretty in that position for days until Brown’s 2008 hit “Forever” replaced it.

So, how did the year-old track get a sudden resurgence? Ah, the wonders of television.

“Forever” was featured in the highly watched wedding episode of the NBC hit sitcom “The Office.” Characters Jim and Pam reenacted the now infamous JK Wedding YouTube video that boosted Brown’s tune during the summer.

Currently, Brown holds the No. 1 and 2 spots on the R&B/Soul iTunes chart.

Glee to sing Chris Brown and Jordin Sparks ‘No Air’

POSTED BY Sharrod ON October 9th, 2009

FOX’s “Glee” is easily one of the best shows of the new television season. It picks up on everything that’s awesome in the world: geeks, geeks feeling empowered, geeks feeling empowered when they sing, geeks feeling empowered when they sing because they have great voices and sing great songs.

The cast have already performed songs by Jazmine Sullivan, Bon Jovi, Beyonce, and Celine Dion, and on next week’s episode, they’ll take on Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown’s chart-topping hit, “No Air.”

Check out Rachel (Lea Michele) and Finn (Cory Montieth) singing the Grammy nominated duet, while they fight to deny their obvious hots for each other.

The episode airs Wednesday, October 15 on FOX.

The complete song can be heard here.

The video at the top is ONLY a sneak peak. But besides that, I didn’t even know about this show. Those kids can sing!

Chris Brown’s anticipated return to the stage at Power 105.1’s Powerhouse 09′ appears to be just a taste of what’s to come.

Speaking of his forthcoming plans, Brown told fans on Twitter “bout to start a small tour soon.. 15 to 20 dates… my fan appreciation tour,” Monday.

Telling fans it’s just for them, Brown promised the venues would be “nothin’ bigger than 4,000 seaters“.
