It seems UK fans are harder to please than US fans, as Takers arrives at No. 14 on the UK Box Office Chart this week, taking in a mere £208,000 from 151 screens. Compare that to the US release which saw Takers hit the top spot, taking in $20,000,000 over the first weekend. Apparently though, the film’s distributer (Sony) decided that it wasn’t worth marketing the film in the UK but would instead focus on its other releases a.k.a. The Social Network.

Landing with a thud at number 14 is heist action flick Takers, starring Matt Dillon, Hayden Christensen, Paul Walker, TI, Idris Elba and Chris Brown. An opening of just £208,000 from 151 screens suggests distributor Sony pretty much gave up on the title, presumably calculating that marketing cash would be better spent on the studio’s upcoming likely hits The Social Network and Easy A.

    There were hardly any posters or trailers of Takers in the UK they didn’t advertise it as much as they should have. Also Chris was banned from the UK by the home office so there are still quite a few people who don’t want to support his film. But it was definately not advertised enough. I hardly saw any trailers or posters! But still i went out and supported the film. :)

    As a UK fan, I agree 100% with BreezyFan, It wasn’t promoted or advertised enough over here, so I am not surprised it did not chart high at the box office. I find it hard to believe it was even shown in 151 screens that seems like a lot more cinema’s for a film which had so little promo, If you don’t market a film release, then what do you expect? Just because Chris can’t come into the UK doesn’t mean it’s useless to not promote the film over here and take him off the film poster.

    I blame Sony, it’s got nothing to do with the UK fans being harder to please and anyway most people apart from the diehard UK Chris Brown supporters eg.twitter, don’t know about this film being out.

    As a fan website, shouldn’t you be posting positive news about Chris instead of news like this, does it matter how good the film does overseas? so be happy that it went NO:1 in America and was advertised more because you fans in America, certainly get to see more Chris then us, so be grateful and stop complaining!

      Buffy 2010, we post news regardless of negativity or positivity and that’s why we’re still around after five years. Fans should have the right to know the rankings of the film regardless if it’s high or low. If it did well, we’ll post it, if it doesn’t do well and we know the reason why, then we’ll still post it. This article isn’t showing Chris in a negative light, rather Sony.

    Just to clarify though, we don’t mean harder to please in terms of Chris Brown we mean harder to please in relation to films. And yeah being from Ireland i understand what is meant by lack of promotion. I saw one TV ad and one poster before the film was released and that was it.

    Well, I do believe that they really are trying to keep a good Brother down. But, it won’t work.Takers is still bring in the money and Chris is still loved by millions over 50Million to be exact. When GOD shines on you there is nothing that can hold you down. Congratulation Chris Brown on being a postive person to thousand of young people. You have my support. Try to get involed in getting the young people in the Democratic election this year. Teambrezzy, NYC.
