RICHMOND, Virginia — In recent weeks, Chris Brown has been working to get his career back on track after his February altercation with Rihanna, with a new music video, a performance at a New York radio festival and a “Fan Appreciation” concert tour, an album due next month and a series of interviews talking about the assault and what he has learned from it.

But many questions still remain.

What caused the singer to lash out against his former girlfriend in the first place? Why has he tweeted fan-made photo galleries of the two of them and released music inspired by her? What does he think about, nine months later, when he recalls that fateful night?

Chris Brown discusses all of these matters, and takes a hard look back on what happened that night, during the MTV News special “Chris Brown: The Interview,” which airs Friday, November 6, at 6 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

“My thoughts [when I look back on it now] is like, ‘Why did it happen?’ “ he told MTV News correspondent Sway during an hour-long, one-on-one interview that took place in Brown’s native Virginia. “Like, ‘What was I thinking? What is wrong with you?’ That’s what I’m thinking with myself. That’s what my thoughts are, basically, now.

“It’s like, ‘How do we get past it? How do you, Chris’ — talking to myself — ‘how do you go from point A to point B? How do you learn from your mistakes, turn it into a positive and help other people with the situation, and at the end of the day become the person that you want to be?’ “

As both superstars attempt to move on and restart their careers while rebuilding their lives, the world is watching and waiting for answers.

During the interview, Brown told MTV News that therapy is helping him to assess his actions and behavior. The singer said he sits in group settings during his weekly sessions and combines the experiences of others with his own to figure out what led him to assault then-girlfriend Rihanna. “Just anger,” he said plainly when asked by Sway what triggered the incident. “Yeah, anger.

“Young people, we do before we think,” Brown added.

    Just saw the first part of Rihanna's interview this morning, VERY INTERESTING and definetly gives you some thing sto think about. I love both Chris and Rihanna and basically feel that whatever comes of this, we can all say that there were 2 VICTIMS that night and that they both need our love. prayers and support. They are both young people who became involved in something totally beyond their ability to handle and I feel for them both. Only thing I find myself struggling with is how Ri comes off saying she is embarrassed to have loved someone like him and gone back to him, because it's not like there's a sign on someone's head stating If you get with me I will hurt you and too I believe you have to look at your on part in the equation, he didn't become violent by himself.     Obiviously Chris is doing himself harm, his concert ticket sales for his "fan appriation" tour isnt doing so good. i heard its doing so bad, thats the reason for why he decided to make his album release a week earlier, so that others would catch on to him and go to his concert….I think chris would have made a bigger comback if he seems a little bit more remorseful and be more worried about his personal growth in the public eye and not the number of records he could sell…his priorites seem off. and many are seeing that…

        The man has apologized over and over and has taken full blame. What more do people want from him? And if Jive was worried about record sales, they would've pushed the album back just like Usher did to his album.

    We finally got closure tonight…the bloggers will feed on this a couple days and then finally it will be all over. Her silence kept the wound open but now everyone can heal after that talk crap for a couple days. Chris is right on schedule. I'm so happy she showed her true colors tonite! YES! My sister told me no one gives a damn about this anymore but i didn't believe her now i do….no one cares yawn

    What we need to realize is that both of these people are still very young. He should not have hit her but there are TWO sides of every story!! Hopefully they both have learned from this and I hope they
    BOTH have continued success.
    If we all think back to when we were young i am sure there are things we have done that we are happy that we did not have to deal with in public. Let's think before we judge anyone.

    I think Rihanna is saying all this shit because she knows that Chris wont tell his side of the story (not to mention her album is dropping later this month too). As long as he "keeps it private", I'd hate to say it, but more people will be on her side than his. I think he should just come clean and tell his side. I mean really, he can't make himself look much worse by it considering all the things Rihanna said bout him.

    @ Dutchess, I agree with you 100%, and I think Chris took the High road by not revealing any details. After all we fail in love with his music and his private life is better for him private. Real talk, "Ri" broke her silence for publicity for her not-so-good upcomming CD. But not everyone is fooled by her stunt.
