Skull Gang leader Juelz Santana recently weighed in on Chris Brown’s no-show at last weekend’s BET Awards and said Jay-Z was largely responsible.
In addition to his reaction, Santana also took a few shots at Jigga via Twitter.
“i take nothin away from Jay-Z,” he wrote. “i dont wanna sound like a Hater but his swagger was on Zero yesterday. & i just heard thru the grape vine that Jay-Z said he would not Perform if Chris Brown was gonna perform.. SMH Sucker Move I woulda rather seen Chris Brown come out & do his tribute to [Michael Jackson]. It woulda been the 1st time he Performed since ? I know he woulda Killed it. ok Tweople. Yall do the Math. MJ just died the show as a Tribute to MJ. so not only does he say he down want chris to perform & do what would of been probably the best MJ tribute, but he coulda atleast did H-to tha IZOO cuz it has the MJ beat and Put MJ’s name in it.”(Juelz Santan’s Twitter)
“Although rumors have been flying that Chris Brown was shut out of BET’s Awards show - which were a tribute to Michael Jackson - on Sunday, sources for BET and Brown have told MTV News that the rumors are untrue.Despite the controversy that has surrounded Brown since his altercation with Rihanna in February - to which he pleaded guilty earlier this month - many fans wondered why Brown, who has garnered many comparisons to Michael Jackson over his career, did not take part in the ceremony. Brown paid homage to the King of Pop during the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, and many thought the young singer and fellow chart-topper Usher - who has also paid respect to Jackson in dance form over the years - should have been present at the show. Usher’s absence was explained Sunday night when he released a statement saying he was overseas and expressed his regrets for not being able to attend, but there hasn’t been a word from Brown. The rumor mill was churning on Monday morning radio programs with speculation about why Brown was not included in the show, and carried over into blogs and even landed on New York’s Daily News on Tuesday morning (June 30).The rumors, for the most part, claim that BET had booked Brown for the awards show but pulled the plug due to complaints from influential people who were troubled by Brown’s altercation with Rihanna. The Sourceclaimed that Jay-Z demanded that Brown not be on the show.
Other rumors claim Cover Girl, for which Rihanna is a spokesperson, made a similar demand; the Daily News, citing an “insider,” said both Jay and the Reverend Al Sharpton, who has been a spokesperson for the Jackson family in recent days, had a hand in quashing Brown’s appearance (Sharpton told MTV News on Tuesday that the rumors have no validity).Although Brown himself has not commented on the reports, a source close to his camp told MTV News that Brown was never confirmed to be a part of the show and the rumors regarding Brown and BET were untrue; a spokesperson for BET corroborated that information, adding that “the rumors are false.”While Brown was not available for comment, he issued a statement after Jackson’s death that spelled out the influence the legend had on him.”Michael Jackson is the reason why I do music and why I am an entertainer,” Brown said. “I am devastated by this great loss, and I will continue to be humbled and inspired by his legacy. My prayers are with his family. Michael will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. He’s the greatest … the best ever. No one will ever be better.”Brown was among the first to pay homage to Jackson, who passed away last week, in song: He teamed up with Game, Boyz II Men, Diddy and others on a song called “Better on the Other Side,”which hit the Internet the day after Jackson’s death.”

VIDEO: Better On The Other Side (Michael Jackson Tribute)
While Chris Brown’s dancer, B Shaw, claims that Jay-Z was the reason Chris was unable to perform last night, our partner GossipOnThis.com claims to have exclusive insider information that paints a very different picture:
“Chris Brown was supposed to open the show but BET executives were not agreeing to let Chris go on stage after they had already established that he was performing,” a source revealed to Gossip On This. “A lot of reports were saying that he was using this as a way to rebuild his image. So at the last minute, he was pulled. … After 3 days of rehearsal, they pulled Chris Brown from the show…”
Either way, BET was foolish for not allowing Chris Brown to perform. According to multiple reports, the Jackson family wanted Chris Brown to perform a tribute to Michael. After all, no one would have done it better. The 2009 BET Awards were truly a mess. Hopefully the 2010 brings something way better.
Rest In Peace Michael Jackson - the greatest there ever was, and ever will be.
Sharrod wrote earlier in a post that Chris was working with Mary J Blige in the studio, but Chris actually only wrote the song “Stronger” and it’s recorded 3 times by 3 different artists which are: Keri Hilson, Mary J Blige and Esther Dean. The songs only has Chris’s background vocals.

New Music: Rock City Feat. Chris Brown (Ransom Freestyle)
Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - The BET Awards, scheduled to air live on Sunday, are going to focus their efforts on celebrating the life and music of Michael Jackson. BET chairman Debra L. Lee says Sunday’s show is dedicated to the King of Pop.
“Michael’s influence is felt every day in so many ways at BET Networks, and it’s been that way throughout our network’s entire 29-year history,” Lee said in a statement. “We watched him grow up, and like everyone around the world, he feels like he is a member of our family.”
“He will be missed more than we can say…but his legend and memory live on in the artists, musicians, producers, dancers, fans, and everyone else who looks to him for inspiration,” Lee continued. “Our annual BET Awards show, scheduled for this Sunday in Los Angeles, is dedicated to Michael Jackson and will pay tribute to his legacy.”
Many celebrities are in talks to pay tribute to the singer, including controversial performer Chris Brown. Brown, a longtime Jackson fan, has previously performed a “Thriller” tribute for Jackson, as well as performing bits of “Billie Jean” during an MTV performance.
The 2009 BET Awards, hosted by Jamie Foxx, is set air at 8pm Sunday, June 28th and will feature performances from Beyonce, Ne-Yo, Keyshia Cole, and more.
Recording artists and other entertainers previously confirmed for Sunday’s BET Awards, including Jamie Foxx, are reportedly working on Michael Jackson related tributes.
In a release issued Friday, BET Awards executive producer Stephen Hill confirmed that there would indeed be a tribute and a number changes to the show.
“This will be a show heavy on Michael Jackson’s memory. I think what you’re going to find is that acceptance speeches for awards will have nothing to do about the artists themselves, but about the influence that Michael Jackson had on them,” said Hill.
In addition to speeches and presentations, Hill says several artists have approached the network, asking how they could help with a tribute.
As previously announced, the BET Awards 09′ are set to place Sunday, June 28 Live! from Los Angeles Shrine Auditiorium.
Let’s just hope that CHRIS is one of the artists that contacted BET to participate in a MJ tribute (i’m sure he have). I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s in the show, because NOBODY can do MJ like Chris, and Chris IS in LA where the show is being held. So…

“Better On The Other Side” Ft Chris Brown, Game, Diddy, Mario Winans, Boys 2 Men, Polow The Don
The Game is the one that got everybody together to do this song. Chris was the first person he called to hop on this track. Click here to hear Game talk about how he got everybody together, plus more.
Again, we would like to send our prayers out to the family of Michael Jackson. I’m still in disbelief. MJ is the biggest star ever and has impacted so many of our lives, including Chris. I’m sure we all have our MJ memories growing up…I know I do.
At this time we all know of the BET Awards that will be happening this Sunday. We can all expect it to be a somber show - and full of tributes to the King of Pop. But one question on the minds of many is “will Chris be there to do a tribute?” I don’t know about you, but lets be honest - Chris is probably the one who would do it best. We all know how Chris has always mentioned how MJ was an inspiration to him and how he always payed homage to him in his concerts. Also we remember the award shows where Chris was the highlight - all because of imitating Michael. And despite all that’s going on in Chris’ life right now - I think people should put whatever feelings they have towards Chris aside and just accept the fact that it’s about celebrating Michael Jackson’s life…and having Chris be a part of that would only be right.
Twitter fans, there has already been a popular twitition going around trying to get Chris to perform a tribute. If you haven’t already signed, you can view it here.
But I have a feeling our wishes may come true somehow. Someone close to Chris has hinted that “something amazing is going to happen.” So fingers crossed, lets hope the BET Awards make this happen, I think fans of Michael would appreciate it.
The world continues to cope with the death of Michael Jackson, and though the King of Pop has passed away, his undying influence reigns supreme. Jackson was a worldwide phenomenon who broke race, gender, culture and age barriers, and was regarded as arguably the greatest entertainer in any genre. Celebrities and fans alike have been reaching out to MTV to pay their respects.
One of the artists of today that has garnered the most comparisons to a young Michael Jackson is Chris Brown. Like Jackson, Brown has been called a “complete package,” combining fashion sense, singing and dancing talent. Brown paid an amazing homage to the timeless icon at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, mimicking MJ’s iconic moves.
“Michael Jackson is the reason why I do music and why I am an entertainer,” Brown said in a statement. “I am devastated by this great loss, and I will continue to be humbled and inspired by his legacy. My prayers are with his family. Michael will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. He’s the greatest … the best ever. No one will ever be better.”

WESTWOOD, California — On Monday night, some of Hollywood’s biggest stars descended on the Mann Village Theatre for a huge premiere, celebrating the summer’s biggest, loudest, most high-profile movie. But on the “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” red carpet, moments before the film was unveiled, the day’s news involving Chris Brown and Rihanna was on everyone’s lips.
“Violence is never the answer — even if provoked,” reasoned Aubrey O’Day, the former Danity Kane member and “Making the Band” star, who had just heard the news that Brown accepted a plea deal. “But with bigger issues like war, we just need to let go and forgive. Let people move on.”
“I just wish they were here,” “Transformers” co-star Tyrese said of Chris and Rihanna, explaining that the escapism of a film like “Revenge of the Fallen” is helpful during difficult times. “[It would help them] to embrace this energy at this premiere.”
Sure enough, a huge crowd had poured out for “Fallen” — but as the stars tried to promote their Friday release, it was hard to ignore the news that had broken just a few hours earlier.
“I wish [Chris Brown] luck,” confessed “Gossip Girl” actress Taylor Momsen, who was doubtful that the plea deal was the final chapter in the Chris Brown-Rihanna drama. “People like to obsess over personal lives — so I’m sure it’s not the end.”
“I support both artists,” said Ciara, who has toured and recorded with both Brown and Rihanna. “It’s a very personal process.”
All-American Rejects member Nick Wheeler, however, was a bit less diplomatic. “If it was just a regular dude, would [the sentence] have been the same?” he asked, posing a question on the minds of many who believe Brown’s celebrity helped him in the courtroom. “No one should turn a blind eye to [abuse]. He should get what he gets.
“We did a show with Rihanna a couple years ago,” Wheeler added. “And she was nice.”
“I wish them well,” explained Anthony Anderson, a star of the original “Transformers” film, who said that he’ll continue to buy Chris Brown albums whenever the troubled singer decides to move forward. “I’m not going to let a personal instance taint my opinion of someone musically.”
“He’s incredibly talented,” Aubrey O’Day agreed. “Regardless of his personal decisions, I will always support his music.”
Late last month, Chris Brown posted a video online in which he said he’s working on a new album called Graffiti and planned to release a new single this summer — however, music is popping up sooner than he intended. Over the past few weeks, several Brown songs have been circulating on the Internet and late Tuesday night, his record company released a statement saying that the songs are not legitimate releases.
“Countering misleading reports of ‘new’ Chris Brown music: there are no ‘new’ songs from Chris Brown currently being promoted by Chris or his record label,” a representative for Jive Records said in a statement. “There are several old demos circulating that are being falsely promoted as new material from Chris.”
Two of the songs in question — “Not My Fault” and “Smash” — have been tagged with unfortunate titles, given Brown’s recent legal issues stemming from his alleged altercation with Rihanna. On Monday, Brown was sentenced to 180 days of community service and five years’ probation.
“Not My Fault” is an uptempo number that sounds like it could have been produced by the Neptunes — it even sounds like Pharrell Williams doing some ad-libs as the song ends. The record is about a young lady who falls to pieces after Brown shuns her. The woman in the song is so hurt that Brown sings about her mother calling him and saying her daughter won’t eat or sleep.
“Shorty is caught up, from a long night,” Brown sings. “She’s ready to fall, but see, it’s all right … That’s not my fault, right?”
On “Smash,” Brown is in full robotics mode and utilizes Auto-Tune, which Jay-Z slammed in his new track, “D.O.A.” “Guess who stepped in the room?” Brown sings on “Smash.” “It’s your Breezy, hit her with the Auto-Tune … I’m the kinda guy who don’t wanna follow rules, so come on baby girl, let’s break a few.” He also asks the girl he’s singing to if she wants to play with fire before telling her he knows her agenda. She doesn’t want his number, picture or autograph — she wants to “smash.” The song is obviously unfinished, as there’s no second verse.
“Uh Oh” is more of a dance record and finds Brown crooning, “There goes another one, shorty wanna rock with me … Shorty dip it low for me/ Let’s take it to the floor, show me what you got for me.”
And finally, a song called “Stronger” is a Mary J. Blige ballad that features Brown singing backing vocals. On it, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul sings, “I will survive as long as it’s you by my side/ I’m stronger.” A rep for Blige said the song was recorded before Brown’s incident with Rihanna in February; the rep said she was uncertain when and where the song would be released.
At press time, Brown’s next LP had no official release date.
A day after copping a plea in his assault case against ex-girlfriend Rihanna, Chris Brown was spotted texting his way into a recording studio in Hollywood on Tuesday.
In between community service, probation and domestic violence counseling, the 20-year-old felon is gonna try and squeeze out some more hits.
R&B singer/songwriter Chris Brown is reportedly thankful to all who have supported him throughout his felony assault case.
“He’s very thankful to all the people who’ve been very supportive. This is a kid who’s never been in trouble before, who wants to move past this…,” says Brown’s attorney Mark Geragos.
Geragos’ statement follows Brown’s decision to plead guilty of felony assault in exchange for an adjusted sentence that includes no jail time and the dropping of a ‘making criminal threats’ charge Monday.
Since February, Brown has been embattled with numerous court dates and a mirage of ‘bad’ press including the loss of radio airplay and endorsement deals — all stemming from his assault on fellow entertainer Rihanna.
While there has been mixed reaction, when it comes to the verdict, attorney Mark Geragos implies that Brown will make sure “the message gets out” that domestic violence is “not acceptable”.
“He has accepted responsibility and continues to do so and embraces this as an opportunity for him to get his life back on track and his career back on track.”
Chris Brown is due for official sentencing August 5.
Chris Brown has copped a plea in his assault case. He won’t do jail time, but he will spend 6 months doing things like road cleanup. He’s also been ordered to stay 50 yards clear of Rihanna.
He’ll spend 180 days doing community labor (8 hours a day — 1440 hours total) — which is, in effect, hard labor. He’ll do his service in Virginia which is where Brown lives - it’s equivalent to Caltrans or graffiti cleanup.
He gets 5 years probation for FELONY assault — he pled guilty. He’ll get supervised probation. He’ll have to come back to court every three months.
He must enroll in a domestic violence counseling program.
This is interesting … the judge said if Brown and Rihanna are at the same public events, the 50-yard stay away turns into 10 yards. The stay away order lasts 5 years.
The judge said she wanted to make sure that Chris Brown “was treated as any other person who comes through this court.”
If Brown violates probation, he could get up to 4 years in prison.
Rihanna is in the courthouse but never entered the courtroom.
So Brown is now a convicted felon and loses the right to vote or carry a gun.
Brown left the courtroom … just after he left, Rihanna walked in the courtroom. The judge is now explaining the deal to her. The judge is telling Rihanna about the protective order.
Chris Brown has copped a plea in his felony assault case - our X17 source inside the courtroom tells us that Chris will have to spend 180 days in his home state of Virginia for a domestic violence labor program, and he’ll get 5 years probation for the assault charge.
Chris must enroll in a domestic violence counseling program, and if he violates the terms of his probation, he could face up to 4 years in state prison. Additionally, the judge is enforcing a stay away order in which Chris is not allowed to have contact with Rihanna, and he cannot come within 50 yards of her. When the two are at industry events, this distance will be reduced to 10 yards.
Chris left the courtroom at approximately 2:14pm, and Rihanna didn’t enter the courtroom until after he left. She wore a black top and pearls, and as soon as the DA passed a copy of the protective order to her, she exited the courtroom.
Chris will be sentenced on August 5 at 1:45 pm, and he is on bond, free to go.
MTV News was in the courtroom when Brown struck a plea deal in his assault case.
LOS ANGELES — Chris Brown entered the 13th-floor courtroom quietly on Monday (June 22) for the preliminary hearing in his assault case. Wearing a beige suit and diamond earrings, Brown was followed closely by his lawyer. As the jurors settled in, Brown spoke quietly with his counsel, nervously blinking his eyes and biting his lower lip.
A hush remained over the brown, wood-paneled courtroom as eight law officers hovered around the singer and tried to cram observers into the seats. A tissue box was positioned at the witness stand.
Moments before Judge Patricia M. Schnegg entered the courtroom, where MTV News watched the proceedings, a buzz began circulating that Rihanna wasn’t here, seemingly indicating an impending plea deal.
“Good morning, everyone, or should I say good afternoon?” the judge began. “Do we have a deal?”
Brown’s lawyer stood up immediately and stated the conditions of the plea deal.
“Earlier today, we had a very brief discussion in chambers,” the judge explained, saying she was surprised to learn that Brown does not live in California, and that his principle address is in Virginia. “This will be a felony, will be supervised probation.
“I will allow Mr. Brown to do his 180 days of service in Virginia,” she explained, insisting that it should be a tougher service, not “church.”
Brown sat in silence while his lawyer and the judge went back and forth.
UPDATE: HUGE … THEY’VE JUST ALLOWED A CAMERA IN THE COURTROOM. OUR SOURCES SAY IF A CAMERA WAS LET IN THAT MEANS THERE ALMOST CERTAINLY IS A PLEA BARGAIN
UPDATE: Even though Rihanna’s there it still does feel like plea bargain
UPDATE: BIG CHANGE. RIHANNA IS IN THE COURTHOUSE. THAT DOESN’T FEEL LIKE A PLEA BARGAIN. She’s wearing all black with sunglasses — looks like a pop star going to a funeral.
